Out of State Inmates In Grant County

Due to overcrowding at an eastern Iowa jail, inmates from Scott County will be held in southwest Wisconsin. The new Grant County Jail is now housing 10 prisoners from the Davenport area. Grant County Sheriff’s officials say the county will be paid $54-dollars per inmate per day. Plus they’ll be reimbursed for health-care services provided. Grant County’s jail is the sixth facility outside of Scott County being used to house their minimum-security inmates. Grant County’s new jail site, completed last year, has more than 100 beds. Sheriff’s officials say they typically have about 40 inmates housed at the Lancaster facility. Renting excess space in the new jail was part of the department’s plan as a way to bring in additional revenue – which could reach $250-thousand dollars a year.
