Grant County authorities are blaming fog for a two-vehicle crash that happened Saturday morning north of Rockville. The sheriff’s office says that 21-year-old Carter Austin of Platteville was driving west on County Highway B about 9am. Due to fog and tiredness, Austin failed to see or slow down for a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 35-61. His vehicle went into the intersection and hit the rear quarter panel of a southbound vehicle driven by 30-year-old Derek McBee of Fennimore. McBee’s vehicle spun around and turned over on its side. It then slid along the shoulder of Highway 35-61 before going into the ditch. As McBee’s vehicle went into the ditch, it rolled one complete time. A passenger in his vehicle – Ashley McBee – was taken to Grant Regional Health Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Derek McBee was also taken to the Lancaster hospital for evaluation. Austin was not reported injured in the crash. He has been cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.
