Factory and maintenance workers at Dubuque-based A.Y. McDonald Mfg. Co. initiated a strike this morning after a contract deadline between their union representation and the company passed without an agreement. Members of Local Lodge 1238 of International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers stood on the sidewalk outside the Chavenelle Road facility this morning, holding signs saying “On strike machinist union.” A press release from A.Y. McDonald states that IAM represents all factory and maintenance workers at the facility. A report says the IAM union members at the facility make up a small percentage of A.Y. McDonald employees. Negotiations are expected to resume June 6th.
