Groundbreaking took place Saturday for the new Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County. The new location for the hospital is just off Highway 23 on Darlington’s southside. Speakers were hospital CEO Kathy Kuepers, Lafayette County Board Chair Jack Sauer, and hospital committee member Jed Gant. Keynote speakers were State Representative Todd Novak, State Senator Howard Marklein, and U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Baldwin secured $9 million in federal funds as part of bipartisan federal funding bills in 2022 and 2023. The total cost of the new facility will be about $65 million. It is estimated to be completed by August 2024.
