Unemployment rates in local counties ticked upward in August, though area officials expressed little concern about the change. In Wisconsin, Lafayette County’s unemployment rate was 2.7% in August, according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The county’s August unemployment rate was tied for the lowest rate in the state but up slightly from August 2022, when the unemployment rate was 2.6%. In other local Wisconsin counties, Grant County’s unemployment rate was 3.8% in August, up from 2.9% in August 2022. Iowa County’s rate was 3.0%, up from 2.4%. Crawford County’s rate was 3.9%, up from 3.2%.
