Domestic violence deaths are reaching a 22 year high in Wisconsin. According to Attorney General Josh Kaul part of the reason is a loophole in state law that allows people convicted of certain domestic violence charges continued access to guns. On Tuesday he stopped in La Crosse to announce new legislation aimed at keeping guns away from domestic abusers. While it’s illegal for anyone convicted of domestic violence in Wisconsin to own or purchase a gun, Kaul’s legislation would take things further, adding a conviction of ‘disorderly conduct’ involving domestic violence to the list prohibiting gun ownership.
