The recently ousted president of Northeast Iowa Community College vowed to contest his termination approved earlier this week by the college’s board of trustees. In a statement Friday afternoon, Herbert Riedel said he has filed complaints with state and national entities about the board’s actions, which he claims include inappropriate involvement in personnel matters, campaign ethics violations and the creation of a “state of instability” in the college’s administration. The board voted unanimously on Monday to terminate Riedel’s contract “for cause” after placing him on paid administrative leave Oct. 9. Riedel said once the board notifies him in writing of the termination, he plans to request a hearing as provided by Iowa law. He said he has not yet received such written notification.
