A man from the Cuba City area who was sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a Grant County Sheriff’s deputy in 1990 is applying for parole for a third time. Gregory Coulthard is now 52 years old and was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide in July 1990 when he was 18 years old in the death of 38 year old Thomas Reuter in the town of Clifton. Iowa County Circuit Court Judge James Fiedler sentenced Coulthard to life in prison. State law was changed in 1999 to eliminate parole and allow judges to deny parole eligibility. Coulthard was denied parole in 2015 and again in 2021. Now, Coulthard will have a parole hearing sometime in January on a date yet to be determined.
