Eric Hovde, a former Republican Senate candidate, will announce a run for the U.S. Senate this week for a chance to oppose Democrat Tammy Baldwin. Hovde ran and lost in a Republican primary in 2012 to former governor Tommy Thompson. Thompson then lost to Democrat Tammy Baldwin in the 2012 General Election, giving Baldwin her first term in the Senate. Hovde, a real estate company owner and bank CEO, is the first Republican to announce a run. Baldwin is wrapping up her second term as U.S. Senator.
