Police said a Dubuque man assaulted a woman from Cuba City and then set fire to the clothing she was wearing. 29 year old Christian Kwallek of Dubuque was arrested just after 9pm Friday at his residence on charges of willful injury causing bodily injury, domestic assault with injury, domestic assault impeding airflow and first-degree arson. A report says that police responded at about 6:50 p.m. Friday to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital for a report of an assault. There, 31 year old Jalysa Turner of Cuba City told officers she had visited Kwallek’s residence earlier that evening and the two had fought. The two had been dating for several months. According to a report, Kwallek physically assaulted and strangled Turner before threatening to tie her to a chair and watch her burn before pouring gas on her pants and using a lighter to ignite the flames. Turner then ran out of the residence and removed the pants and stepped on them to eliminate the fire. Officers observed the pants to be burned, and her sock and jacket also had burn marks. A witness also told officers she saw Turner run out of the residence while still on fire.
