A billion dollars is on its way to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) to help fix roads, highways and bridges across the state. The funds will go toward improving a safety rest area near Sparta and the Blatnik Bridge in Superior, Wisconsin. At the Sparta rest area, the Wisconsin DOT will use $9 million of the grant money to rebuild the rest area and add more truck parking. These projects are 2 of 37 that recently received funding through a U.S. Department of Transportation grant program. Wisconsin DOT Secretary Craig Thompson said the decision to use the money on the rest area came from industry feedback.
