Leaders of a local effort to enhance resources for immigrant communities reported strides in several projects at a biannual forum Thursday. Members of the Better Together Committee, founded by Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, said efforts are progressing to address key obstacles that immigrants face locally such as obtaining and retaining jobs, medical translation, employment for international students and navigating the health care system. The Better Together Committee consists of about 60 stakeholders who work on projects to increase resources and opportunities for area immigrants. Thursday’s forum featured updates from the committee and insights from Dubuque Community Schools staff on challenges student immigrants face.
