Shannon Bussan, the woman accused of killing her 83-year-old grandmother-in-law, Lynne Montgomery of Benton, was found guilty of first-degree intentional homicide on Friday. The verdict follows a lengthy trial in which Bussan was charged with the death of Montgomery, who was allegedly strangled by Bussan in a violent altercation. Following her conviction, Shannon Bussan’s bail was revoked, and she was immediately taken into custody. She will be formally sentenced on December 23. At the time of the murder, three of Bussan’s young children were reportedly with her. District Attorney, Jenna Gill, argued that Bussan posed a danger to others, citing a note allegedly written by Montgomery before her death. The note reportedly accused Bussan of attempting to strangle the victim, ending with the chilling statement, “I don’t know what she will do next.” This led to concerns over Bussan’s potential threat to others, particularly her children. Despite the defense’s arguments, the judge ruled that Bussan would be held on a $1 million cash bond. While the judge permitted Bussan to have contact with her children, she was prohibited from interacting with the victim’s family, except for her husband and their children. Bussan could face life in prison.
