The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will mark Invasive Species Awareness Weekend with a pair of events in Grant County. Volunteers will remove two invasive species, honeysuckle and burdock, along a stretch of the David Canny Rountree Branch Trail from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 21, in Platteville. According to a press release, participants will meet at the corner of East Mineral Street and Valley Road. Shovels and other necessary equipment will be provided. The event will be canceled in case of inclement weather Later on Saturday, a park naturalist will lead an invasive plant identification hike from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Wyalusing State Park near Bagley. The naturalist will discuss the problems each invasive plant poses to the local ecosystem; management tips; and, in some cases, foraging and culinary suggestions. Participants will meet at the observatory parking lot.
