One dead following Poweshiek County train versus semi crash

A train collided with a semi truck, killing one person and seriously injuring another in Poweshiek County. The crash happened early Wednesday afternoon on Highway 21 at a rail crossing east of Brooklyn. The semi was hauling a large John Deere tractor when it collided with an Iowa Interstate Railroad train. One of the two people in the semi died at the scene. The other person was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. Close to 20 rail cars derailed in the crash. Several cars went off the tracks and damaged the roadway.
