Today marks the 42nd anniversary of the Barneveld E5 tornado that occurred June 8, 1984. Barneveld was hit shortly before 1:00 AM and the tornado killed 9 people were killed, with another 200 injured. 93 homes were destroyed, and 64 were damaged. Seventeen of eighteen businesses and public buildings in the village were destroyed. Some 25 million dollars worth of damage occurred in Barneveld alone. The total path length was about 36 miles and the tornado was on the ground for 59 minutes. The rebuilding of Barneveld also inspired Miller Lite to make a commercial highlighting the town’s determination in the aftermath.
