Dubuque Community School District is seeking public input on three school-consolidation options aimed at improving affordability. The scenarios were developed through internal and external task forces, with both groups currently leaning toward Scenario Three. Under the first option, the district would keep two middle schools serving grades six through eight and two high schools serving grades nine through 12, while closing Jefferson Middle School. Scenario Two would close both Jefferson and Washington middle schools, creating one middle school for grades six and seven. The district would keep two high schools, serving grades eight through 12. Scenario Three, would also close Jefferson and Washington. It would create one middle school for grades six and seven, one high school for grades eight and nine with dedicated career and college-readiness space, and another high school serving grades 10 through 12. District leaders stress that no decision has been made. The options are being presented for feedback at several community sessions next week.
