The Universities of Wisconsin is asking the state for $190 million in the upcoming budget to freeze tuition for the next two years. Universities of Wisconsin Regent President Kyle Weatherly and UWs President Renée Wachter announced the initiative, dubbed the 4-Year Tuition Pledge, on Monday. The move is part of the UW’s larger budget proposal for the 2027-29 biennium. The university system would commit to keeping tuition increases in the two years after the freeze at or below the rate of inflation. The proposal would ensure UW students who start their degree in fall 2027 would have declining tuition relative to inflation for four years.
